On Monday 12 February we celebrated International Day of Women and Girls in Science. At SHC, we offer students the chance to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Our Year 7 students take DigiTech classes where they learn about cybersecurity, programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, and even Minecraft courses. In the past, Year 11 chemistry students visited Anther Geelong Distillery to create perfume and learn about the distillation process. Dr. Dervilla McGowan inspired the students to follow their passions and pursue careers in male-dominated industries.
Our Design Futures Lab works on long-term projects focused on sustainability, material science, and architecture. During Geelong Design Week 2023, they showcased a pavilion made of 'coffee concrete', emphasising the potential of reclaimed waste materials. The lab's commitment to pushing design boundaries will continue with a 2024 exhibition featuring Grown materials.
