Students Ava Osborne and Mary Rolfe give their account of the recent Grand Final in the GISSA Cricket against Clonard College:
On Friday 15 March, 12 Sacred Heart Girls made the trip to Barrabool Cricket Club to face our rivals Clonard in the GISSA Cricket Grand Final.
We started the day off with us winning the toss and deciding to have a bat. Holly and Ava got us to a strong start with a quick-fire 40 from Holly. Holly took it up to the Clonard bowlers hitting 4s all around the ground. With Holly retiring it brought Isla to the crease where she came in and blasted a fast 14. Amelie came out to the crease trying to hit big and played her role well. Ava then went on to make her 40 and retired in the 17th over after steadying the ship. Jaz and Lucy finished off the innings well, getting us to a strong 104.
Jaz and Lucy came up to the task early, bowling nice and tight with Clonard batters looking to attack. Jaz took a wicket in her second over thanks to a great catch from Holly. With Jaz and Lucy getting us off to a great start our spinners were able to come on and take their reward. Jaz taking an absolute screamer at short cover was a highlight in the field, but everyone fielded extremely well. Macy came on at the end to bowl well with a standout 3/16. With Clonard needing 49 to win off the last over it was time to bring on injured skipper Mary to bowl the last. A tidy over from Mary saw Scared Heart win the final by 47 runs, sending off Year 12s Mary and Jaz in style.
Final Score: SHC 2/104, Clonard 6/57
