2023 Athletics Carnival

A sunny morning, a bit of light rain and some warm weather greeted us this year for the Athletics Carnival at SHC. The day started beautifully with the Opening Ceremony Performance by our Student House Leaders. Our four house themes this year were: P is for Padua, Loyola takes a trip down memory lane, Siena in Disguise and Clairvaux Game Day.

Congratulations to all those who participated and earned a participation point for their house. It was great to see so many students giving it their best in the different track and field events, the fountain lakes fitness festival participation area and out enjoying the day.

A big thank you to the SHC staff, maintenance, administration officers, and IT staff who make this such a wonderful day!

The fashions on the field and house cheers were well supported by all house members.

ANZAC Ceremony

On 5 April 2023, eight SHC students journeyed to the The Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne for Legacy's 91st annual ANZAC Commemoration Ceremony for students. This day grants an opportunity for students to acknowledge and pay respect to those who have passed during the wars that Australia has been involved in, especially WW1, WW2 and Vietnam.

Accompanied by Mr Tracey, Mr Haitas and Ms Di Giandomenico, the students attended the Legacy ceremony, laid a wreath and then explored the Shrine. It was a great day to enable younger students to learn about the conditions and experiences that the soldiers endured and encouraged our younger students to consider becoming a Shrine Young Ambassador. It was wonderful to have the new Year Sevens and Eights show an interest and be so keen to learn more about the Shrine.

In all, the day was a great experience which I was proud to be involved in and I offer a big thank you to Mr Tracey for planning the day.

On Thursday 23 March, a group of students took part in the CGSAV Division 1 Swimming competition held at MSAC during the evening. All the students were excited and ready to go when we arrived. It was a fantastic night for the SHC team as they all tried their best, cheering each other on from the stands.

Asher and Vivian Bayles - Gymnast Extraordinaires

Congratulations to sisters Asher Bayles 11CLEP and Vivian Bayles 8CLBWI, who represented Victoria at the 2023 Australian Gymnastics Championships on the Gold Coast. It was a really busy week and both girls performed well and achieved some excellent results.

Vivian competed over two days in the Future International 14 and over division. She was the all-around silver medallist, narrowly missing the National Champion title by less than 0.1! All-around is a combined score on each apparatus over two days of competition. It requires consistency across all apparatus and also has significant difficulty to achieve high scoring routines. Vivian's combined score over the two days was a personal best performance, with some very high execution scores on bars, beam and vault.

Asher also competed over two days in the Senior International division. She was a member of the Victorian State team who were awarded the silver medal in the team event. Asher's scores on beam and vault contributed to the overall team score. In the all-around competition (which is competed over two days) she placed 9th - making the top 10 in the AA was one of her goals for this competition. Asher had some injury concerns coming into this comp so didn't have the best preparation and wasn't able to include some of her more advanced skills that she has been working on. She is keen to spend some time at the VIS in the coming months to get on top of her most recent injury and is hoping to score another position on the Paris 2024 squad (which is reviewed after each National event).

Well done to Asher and Vivian on your outstanding results, a true testament to the hard work you put in to your gymnastics.
